My University is in Chicago. Can I apply?

Unfortunately, as a student in Chicago, you do not qualify. This experience is only offered to college students who attend college outside of the Chicagoland area, who would not otherwise have an opportunity to volunteer during the non-summer months.

We also offer general volunteering opportunities that are not limited to students. Learn more about our general volunteer roles.

I will only be available to volunteer for one month. Can I still participate?

No, we do not offer an expedited experience. As part of our Summer Program, participants are scheduled to start May/June through August.

How do I ensure I will meet the 100-hour commitment?

Service hours are to be completed over a 10¨C12-week duration starting in May/June through August. For example, with a start date of June 2, and an end date of August 8, you would need to work ~ 3-4 shifts per week (~9-12 hours) per week. Shifts are typically three-hour duration, offered Monday through Friday: 9 am-12 pm and/or 1-4 pm.

If you are accepted into the program and your anticipated schedule does not equal 100 hours, you are subject to removal from the program.

What area of the hospital will I work in? Do I get to pick?

You will rotate throughout different areas of the hospital throughout the entire program. Your shift schedule will remain the same for the entirety of the program, with consistent days and times. However, the location of your shift will change on a rotational basis. Some areas will be patient facing, others with less patient interaction. For the last few weeks of the program, we typically offer you preferences for your assignments.
