Shirley Ryan ³Ô¹ÏÌìÌÃ91 again has been recognized as the national leader in physical medicine and rehabilitation, topping the U.S. News & World Report list for the 34th consecutive year. It remains the only hospital of any kind to hold this distinction.

U.S. News has declared Shirley Ryan ³Ô¹ÏÌìÌÃ91 to be the best hospital in its field every year since 1991. For the ranking, the independent news organization analyzes data for more than 5,000 medical centers nationwide in more than 30 specialties, procedures and conditions.

¡°When we continue to do great work the world continues to notice, and we are honored by this and many other external accolades,¡± said Pablo Celnik, MD, Shirley Ryan ³Ô¹ÏÌìÌÃ91 CEO. ¡°In evaluating our achievements, we look to the more than 50,000 patients we serve every year. Their success is our success, and their outcomes are made possible by our team, which is 2,700 people strong. We remain committed to advancing rehabilitation science and care ¡ª and to advancing human ability.¡±

The hospital has celebrated various milestones in the past year, including welcoming Dr. Celnik as its new CEO and announcing a historic partnership with the Gilbert Family Foundation and Henry Ford Health to bring a 72-bed state-of-the-art physical medicine and rehabilitation facility to Detroit.

Founded in 1953 as the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Shirley Ryan ³Ô¹ÏÌìÌÃ91 is the global leader in physical medicine and rehabilitation for adults and children with the most severe, complex conditions ¡ª from traumatic brain and spinal cord injury to stroke, amputation and cancer-related impairment. The organization opened its doors to a $550 million, 1.2-million-square-foot research hospital in March 2017. The facility is the first-ever ¡°translational¡± research hospital in which clinicians, scientists, innovators and technologists work together with patients, applying novel research in real time during rehabilitation. The central goal of the translational approach is to develop new research and insights to help patients gain more function, achieve better outcomes and enjoy greater ability and independence.
