Knee Pain
Body
People who live with osteoarthritis experience knee joint pain due to damaged tissues called cartilage. The body weight or load bearing weight that strains the mechanics of this joint from everyday activities such as walking, and climbing stairs impacts the overall health and recovery of the cartilage.
Our work focusses on measuring biomarkers in individuals with knee osteoarthritis and other conditions that put them at harm or risk of cartilage disease. We are able to study these measurements from extracted joint fluids, blood and urine. The biological measurements may provide information on the metabolic state of the knee cartilage and how some physical activities may influence the future of their knee joint health.
