Small Accessible Repairs For Seniors (SARFS)

The Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation (GADC) is a delegate agent for the City of Chicago’s Department of Community Development (formerly known as the Department of Housing), which provides free minor home repairs through the SARFS program.

SARFS (Small Accessible Repair For Seniors ) is a program for senior citizens who earn no more than 80% of the medium income—adjusted for family size—and who are at least 60 years of age.  Qualified recipients may be homeowners or renters living in a 1- 4 unit building.

Renters must have permission from their landlord and landlords must certify that there will be no rent increase as a direct result of SARFS improvements. The GADC project manager assists seniors through the application process, making on-site assessments to determine service needs, and provide limited home improvements at no cost to the applicant.
