At a recent ceremony in Boston, Leora Cherney, PhD, scientific chair, Robert R. McCormick Foundation Think + Speak Lab, became the very first recipient of the Sandra O. Glista Excellence in Mentoring Award. The honor was given by Aphasia Access, an organization that supports academics and healthcare professionals who work with patients with aphasia.
This award, established in 2023, recognizes outstanding mentors who have significantly impacted the professional and personal development of individuals in the aphasia community. Dr. Cherney has not only mentored colleagues at Shirley Ryan ³Ô¹ÏÌìÌÃ91; she¡¯s also mentored people through the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research's Advanced Rehabilitation Research Training (ARRT) program.
¡°Being able to mentor others is a great privilege,¡± said Dr. Cherney. ¡°And, while mentees have perhaps had opportunities to learn from me, I continue to learn every day from them ¡ª many of whom are now my colleagues whose accomplishments make me incredibly proud.¡±
