Return to Driving: Considerations for Therapists
Description: Driving is a complex everyday living task that often needs to be addressed with clients after hospitalizations. Individuals that have had a CVA, SCI, an exacerbation of a disease, limb amputation or a host of other medical problems may present with symptoms that influence if the individual can safely return to driving. This webinar explores what the State of Illinois requirements are for return to driving, the variety of deficits that can potentially impact driving, what the adaptive options to driving could be, and what alternative options to driving could be.
Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the State of Illinois driver licensing requirements for adults
- Discuss physical, cognitive and visual/perceptual deficits factor into an individual¡¯s ability to return to driving after a medical event
- Express adaptive equipment options to foster a safe return to driving after a medical event
